Red onions help you stay healthy

London: The humble red onion, commonly used in India and Mediterranean cuisine, can help prevent heart disease.
Researchers at the Chinese University in Hong Kong found that red onion helps remove bad cholesterol from the body which is responsible for heart attacks and strokes. It also retains the body's good cholesterol that in turn helps protect against heart disease, they said. Zhen Yu Chen, who led the research, said, "Despite extensive research on onions, little is known of how their consumption interacts with human genes and proteins involved in cholesterol metabolism within the body."
For their study, the scientists fed crushed-up red onions to hamsters who had all been put on a high-cholesterol diet. They found that after eight weeks, levels of bad cholesterol, or low density lipoprotein (LDL), had dropped by an average of 20 %. But over the same time period there was no reduction in the hamsters' high cholesterol levels, also known as high density lipoprotein (HDL), they said.
Onions have long been known to have many health benefits including preventing cancer, heart disease and common coughs and colds. It has been found that some parts of the world where onion consumption is high have even been shown to have much lower cancer rates.
For example in Georgia, the US, where the small, sweet Videlia onion is grown the number of stomach cancer diagnoses are a half the average for the rest of the cancer. In China, where people eat more onions and garlic than anywhere else in the world, the risk of stomach cancer is 40 % lower than average. PTI

Health is Wealth

It is well known fact the most important thing in our life is health. None can expect happiness in life without sound health. Quality Health Care facilities are the most vital part of any country. Hundreds of thousands of people especially women and children are dying every day in the world due to lack of these facilities.
Mr. Yin Ho, 67, had no choice but to die a little every day by doing dialysis thrice in a week. He has done dialysis for near 150 times in Yangon, the former capital of Burma (Myanmar).
Unable to see the suffering of her father, Ms. Chaw Su Hlaing 26, decides to donate her kidney to him endangering her own health in the long run. According to Buddhism, there are five infinite venerables i.e The Buddha, The Dhamma, The Sangha, mother and father (Mata Pita) and teacher. The gratitude of these five Venerables is infinite and immeasurable. I am happiest person being able to give survival of my father’s life who has given me life, said Ms. Chaw Su Hlaing.
Mr. Yin Ho was admitted to Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, one of the best hospitals in the Kolkata City, on 15th August, 2010 along with his prospective donor, his daughter, Ms. Chaw Su Hlaing and he was discharged on 28th August, in stable condition. Dr. M.H. Raibagi, renown Nephrologist at Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, advised him to follow-up for two weeks only. But Mr. Yin Ho did his follows-up for four weeks, staying at our temple. The young monks who are giving their relentless interpretation services to the patients are also very happy to see the happiest face of Mr. Yin Ho, who regain the life the way he wants.
Today morning at 10.00 AM, they left for Yangon by Indian Airline flight - IC 728 with renew life.
May Wealth of Health be unto him forever!

Drink 8 Glasses of Water to get rid of wrinkles

London: Want to get rid of wrinkles?
Drink at least eight glasses of water everyday, for experts say that it’s really the elixir of great-looking skin.

According to doctors, drinking eight glasses of water daily can give one a clear and youthful complexion and “ flush out” systems, banish spots, plump out wrinkles and moisturise our skin from the inside out, the Daily Mail reported.
In a double-blind, placebo-controlled, female participants were told to drink one and a half litres of water a day for eight weeks without changing any other elements of their lifestyle. Some drank ordinary tap water. Others drink Willow water, a natural mineral water sourced in UK’s Lake District.
Each woman had her picture taken before and after the trial. At the end of the trial, the results were astonishing. Those who drank ordinary tap water saw a 19% reduction in their wrinkles. Those who drank Willow water saw a dramatic 24% reduction. (PTI

Man to become Immortal in 20 years: Scientist

London: An American scientist has predicted that man could become immortal in as little as 20 yeas' timethrough nanotechnology and better understanding of the body mechanism. Ray Kurzweil, known to have predicted future technologies decades ahead has written in the Sun: "I and many other scientists now believe that in around 20 years we will have the means to reprogramme our bodies' stone-age software so we can halt, then reverse, ageing. Then nanotechnology will let us live for ever." The 61-year-old, lauded by Bill Gates as the smartest futurist on Earth said: "We are living through the most exciting period of human history. Computer technology and our understanding of genes are accelerating at an incredible rate." The scientists says that already, blood cell-sized submarines called nanobots are being tested in animals. These will soon be used to destroy tumours, unblock clots and perform operations without scars. Ultimately, nanobots will replace blood cells and do their work thousands of times more effectively, he added. According to his theory called the "Law of Accelerating Returns" mankind will experience a billion-fold increase in technological capability for the same cost in the next 25 years. Nanotechnology will help in making humans achieve immortality said Kurzweil: "By the middle of the next century we will have back-up copies of the information in our bodies and brians that make us who we are. Then we really will be immortal." (PTI) [THE TIMES OF INDIA, KOLKATA, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2009]

Miss May Thu Kyaw

Miss May Thu Kyaw discharged from Hospital Dear friends, It is again our pleasure to give you intimation that Miss May Thu Kyaw has been discharged from Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals after doctors satisfying themselves about her improvement. Renal transplantation has been done successfully to her body on 16th Sept by a team of the doctors from the said hospitals. According to Dr. V.V. Lakshminarayanan, chief Nephrologist, she has to do follow-up for at least two to three weeks and she can plan for returning home. In fact, she is very lucky to be here in time. Otherwise, her fate is very much uncertain in Burma. This is what her parents said. Even in Apollo Hospitals, she had struggled for her life twice before actual Renal transplant done. We expect she may be able to get normal strength within three weeks. Now she is staying at our Mission along with her parents very happily.
