7 Days Intensive Vipassana Meditation Course

7 Days Intensive Vipassana Meditation Course

7 Days Intensive Vipassana Meditation Course taught by the most Venerable His Holiness Alodawpyeit Sayadaw Baddanta Dr. Ariyavamsa, is being organized at the Bodhisukha Parahita Temple, Russa Road Young Buddhist Student Literacy Mission, P.O. Badu, P.S. Barasat, North 24 Parganas, Kolkata 700 128, West Bengal, India, on and from 9th to 15th January 2010.
India is a land where there was always an influence of an intrinsic human power which we acquire from meditation. This is a process which dates back to the ancient ages. In Pali (ancient Indian Language) Meditation is known as Vipassana. By practicing Vipassana, the power to develop the concentration of mind in turn helps in doing well in life. It is a therapy to bring in peace and tranquility of mind. As our mind and body are closely related, the healthy mind transmits healthy stimulation to the body. Meditation is more relevant in the present day world.

After Meditation course completed, the Sayadaw and his disciples will be visiting to all Buddhist Holy places such Buddhagaya, Sarnath, Kusinara and Lumbini etc.

Nalanda Mahavihara

Ven. Dr. Nando Batha

The name Nalanda became synonyms of wisdom. It conjures up our vision a full fledged university attracting many students from various parts of India and Asia. Indeed it was a centre of Great attention in the academic word as the greatest centre of Buddhist learning.
In the ancient and mediaeval times universities whether in India or in Europe had to be religion oriented.
As stated by Chinese and Tibetan sources, which are cost reliable in reconstruction of its history, curriculum of Nalanda mahavihara was broad enough. Therefore, we can apply the term Mahavihara as university in modern sense.

Aerobics, to lose that paunch

Your Health
DR GITA MATHAI

“I want to lose my paunch,” announced the young woman, “It looks ugly when I wear jeans.”
A common complaint and certainly not a new one. A number of people want a miracle cure for their arms, thighs, belly, double chin — the list of problem areas is endless. Some catchy names have been made up for excess fat that can accumulate in the most inconvenient places. A paunch that spills over a tight salwar or jeans is called muffin top while a substantial round paunch that dictates where you wear your trousers is called a beer belly and the rolls of fat around your torso are called love handles. There’s of course nothing to love about any of these cutely named body parts and all of us would love to get rid of them, but without much effort.

Cancer-detector blood test on way

Washington : In what may pave the way for personalized treatment for cancer patients, scientists claim to have developed a blood test,
Which can detect even a single tumour cell that can cause the disease.`
A team in Boston, which has developed it, says studies using the experimental test will start this year, with support from global healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson, before it is marketed worldwide. According to the scientists, the test could detect many types of cancer, mainly breast, prostate, colon and lung. ‘this is like a liquid biopsy that avoids painful tissue sampling and a better way to monitor patients than periodic imaging scans,” the media quoted Daniel Haber, the chief of Massachusetts General Hospital’s cancer centre and one of the test’s inventor’s as saying.
Scientists said the blood test uses a microchip that resembles a laboratory slide covered in 78,000 tiny posts; like bristles on hairbrush, coated with antibodies that bind to tumour cells. When blood is forced across the chip, cells ping of the posts like balls in a pinball machine. The cancer cells stick, and stains make them glow so researchers can count and capture them study, say the scientists. “The test can find one cancer one cancer cell in a billion or more healthy cells,” said Mehmet Toner, a Harvard University bioengineer, who helped design it.
The technology is known as Circulating Tumor Cell microchip. The findings have been published in the latest edition of the ‘Nature’ journal.
The partnership brings together Veridex, which is the only company to have brought a version of the test to the US market, with clinical researchers to develop an improved version of the current technology. “This is collaboration is an opportunity to apply our past learning to the advancement of a platform that will ultimately benefit patients with cancer,”
said Toner.
The planned “next-generation system” aims to improve the sensitivity of the current test and make it available for use by oncologists “as a diagnostic tool for personalizing patient care, as well as by researchers to accelerate and improve the process of drug discovery and development”, Veridex said.

Donation can make you wealthier

Donation can make you wealthier
Dana is the word derived from Pali literature. It means the offering or sacrificing. Dana cannot be performed by everybody. In many Jatakas and Buddhist literatures we can find the significance of Dana. The Buddha has donated even his life for welfare of the others. In one of the Suttas the Buddha pointed out “Danato Bhogava” carrying the meaning that those who donate become rich. In my earlier years I used to think that those people who are rich may not perform great Dana. In deed, rich people become rich because of their generosity and their efforts. We will not find anybody who becomes poor because of their donation in this world. In fact, donation will make you richer and happier. This is agreed by the Buddha’s word – Danato Bhogava.
Mr. U Myo Nyunt and his wife, Daw Khin Hnin Yee, along with their children came to our temple for the first time to consult with Nephrologist At Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals on 5/3/10. All necessary tests have been done. After seeing all test-reports doctors advised Daw Khin Hnin Yee should undergo dialysis as quickly as possible, but her husband U Myo Nyunt did not listen to the advise of the doctors. In fact, he would like to control his wife’s disease for the time being with medicines only. Fortunately after some medications Daw Khin Hnin Yee become quick ok. Her appetite also increases. These made U Myo Nyunt stronger with his decision. But they didn’t know this may be temporary. They purchased some medicines for 12 months. Their plan was to come here after 12 months later. In the meantime, Mr. U Myo Nyunt was admitted to the same hospital for his heart disease on 11/3/10. Immediately after his admission, Coronary angiogram done and revealed triple vessel Coronary arter disease. Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty with stenting to LCX (Xeince), Ramus (Endeavor), RCA (Cypher) were done in the same sitting. He was discharged from Hospital on 13/3/10 with stable condition.
They went back to Myanmar along with all these medicines on 17/3/10. The weather already started to be hot at this time. They had donated some Rupees for repairing of the small structure as well as installation of air-condition machines so that they can stay when they come again for renal transplant. Immediately after arriving at their house, Mr. U Myo Nyunt went to border area, where his business was supposed to be started. But his wife’s disease was not waiting till his desired time. Mrs. Daw Khin Hnin Yee had to take admission at Local Hospital in Yangon, where she got first dialysis. After two weeks she was discharged from hospital with stable condition.
Mrs. Daw Khin Hnin Yee, her sons, Mr. Myint Soe Oo, Mr. Lin Lin, daughter, Ms. Tha Zin, daughter-in-law, Mrs. Kalyar, came again to our temple for renal transplant on 10/5/10. The weather was very hot at the time. Air condition was also not working properly due to low electricity power. It was awful.
Mrs. Khin Hnin Yee was admitted to Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals along with her donor on 23/5/10. After long struggle with so many health complications, renal transplantation has successfully been done into her body on 29/6/10. Her renal prospective donor is her own son, Mr. Myint Soe Oo.
Before their 2nd time coming, Mr. U Myo Nyunt has requested me to buy a small car to be donated at temple. It surprised all monks at temple, for he was telling as if joking. In fact, Mr. U Myo Nyunt was a man of action. While they were going back to Yangon after all works completed here, again they have donated Rs. 8,90,000/ for construction of the school building.
In deed, Mr. U Myo Nyunt is not much wealthy person, but he can do whatever he wanted to do. Definitely he will be wealthier and happier after his donation of a car, costing $ 13000, and Rs. 8,90,000/- ($ 20,000).

Naing Win Myo Leading Normal Life

There is well-known word "Health is wealth”. Without good health nobody can enjoy the life fully whoever he/she is. Therefore, health care is the most imminent sector in any country.

Too many children and mothers are dying or suffering from the effects of ill-health, poor nutrition and inadequate health care. Nearly all these deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries, and mainly among the poorest of the poor. In addition to these poor health care facility there are many more factors which are killing us every day gradually. Unavailability of pure drinking water, air pollution, value-less food intakes, lack of health care awareness,

Red onions help you stay healthy

London: The humble red onion, commonly used in India and Mediterranean cuisine, can help prevent heart disease.
Researchers at the Chinese University in Hong Kong found that red onion helps remove bad cholesterol from the body which is responsible for heart attacks and strokes. It also retains the body's good cholesterol that in turn helps protect against heart disease, they said. Zhen Yu Chen, who led the research, said, "Despite extensive research on onions, little is known of how their consumption interacts with human genes and proteins involved in cholesterol metabolism within the body."
For their study, the scientists fed crushed-up red onions to hamsters who had all been put on a high-cholesterol diet. They found that after eight weeks, levels of bad cholesterol, or low density lipoprotein (LDL), had dropped by an average of 20 %. But over the same time period there was no reduction in the hamsters' high cholesterol levels, also known as high density lipoprotein (HDL), they said.
Onions have long been known to have many health benefits including preventing cancer, heart disease and common coughs and colds. It has been found that some parts of the world where onion consumption is high have even been shown to have much lower cancer rates.
For example in Georgia, the US, where the small, sweet Videlia onion is grown the number of stomach cancer diagnoses are a half the average for the rest of the cancer. In China, where people eat more onions and garlic than anywhere else in the world, the risk of stomach cancer is 40 % lower than average. PTI

Health is Wealth

It is well known fact the most important thing in our life is health. None can expect happiness in life without sound health. Quality Health Care facilities are the most vital part of any country. Hundreds of thousands of people especially women and children are dying every day in the world due to lack of these facilities.
Mr. Yin Ho, 67, had no choice but to die a little every day by doing dialysis thrice in a week. He has done dialysis for near 150 times in Yangon, the former capital of Burma (Myanmar).
Unable to see the suffering of her father, Ms. Chaw Su Hlaing 26, decides to donate her kidney to him endangering her own health in the long run. According to Buddhism, there are five infinite venerables i.e The Buddha, The Dhamma, The Sangha, mother and father (Mata Pita) and teacher. The gratitude of these five Venerables is infinite and immeasurable. I am happiest person being able to give survival of my father’s life who has given me life, said Ms. Chaw Su Hlaing.
Mr. Yin Ho was admitted to Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, one of the best hospitals in the Kolkata City, on 15th August, 2010 along with his prospective donor, his daughter, Ms. Chaw Su Hlaing and he was discharged on 28th August, in stable condition. Dr. M.H. Raibagi, renown Nephrologist at Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, advised him to follow-up for two weeks only. But Mr. Yin Ho did his follows-up for four weeks, staying at our temple. The young monks who are giving their relentless interpretation services to the patients are also very happy to see the happiest face of Mr. Yin Ho, who regain the life the way he wants.
Today morning at 10.00 AM, they left for Yangon by Indian Airline flight - IC 728 with renew life.
May Wealth of Health be unto him forever!

Drink 8 Glasses of Water to get rid of wrinkles

London: Want to get rid of wrinkles?
Drink at least eight glasses of water everyday, for experts say that it’s really the elixir of great-looking skin.

According to doctors, drinking eight glasses of water daily can give one a clear and youthful complexion and “ flush out” systems, banish spots, plump out wrinkles and moisturise our skin from the inside out, the Daily Mail reported.
In a double-blind, placebo-controlled, female participants were told to drink one and a half litres of water a day for eight weeks without changing any other elements of their lifestyle. Some drank ordinary tap water. Others drink Willow water, a natural mineral water sourced in UK’s Lake District.
Each woman had her picture taken before and after the trial. At the end of the trial, the results were astonishing. Those who drank ordinary tap water saw a 19% reduction in their wrinkles. Those who drank Willow water saw a dramatic 24% reduction. (PTI

Man to become Immortal in 20 years: Scientist

London: An American scientist has predicted that man could become immortal in as little as 20 yeas' timethrough nanotechnology and better understanding of the body mechanism. Ray Kurzweil, known to have predicted future technologies decades ahead has written in the Sun: "I and many other scientists now believe that in around 20 years we will have the means to reprogramme our bodies' stone-age software so we can halt, then reverse, ageing. Then nanotechnology will let us live for ever." The 61-year-old, lauded by Bill Gates as the smartest futurist on Earth said: "We are living through the most exciting period of human history. Computer technology and our understanding of genes are accelerating at an incredible rate." The scientists says that already, blood cell-sized submarines called nanobots are being tested in animals. These will soon be used to destroy tumours, unblock clots and perform operations without scars. Ultimately, nanobots will replace blood cells and do their work thousands of times more effectively, he added. According to his theory called the "Law of Accelerating Returns" mankind will experience a billion-fold increase in technological capability for the same cost in the next 25 years. Nanotechnology will help in making humans achieve immortality said Kurzweil: "By the middle of the next century we will have back-up copies of the information in our bodies and brians that make us who we are. Then we really will be immortal." (PTI) [THE TIMES OF INDIA, KOLKATA, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2009]
